Job summary

We are looking for a motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic Specialist Pharmacist to lead our pharmacy team in developing and delivering of a high-quality, specialised pharmacy service for the Inflammatory bowel Disease (IBD) and Homecare.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic, innovative, and friendly team dedicated to improving IBD services. In this key role, you will work as part of an established multidisciplinary team and be responsible for leading and shaping high-quality clinical pharmacy services in IBD and homecare services. You will play a crucial role in patient education, monitoring, and safe prescribing practices, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and local policies

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the development and delivery of a specialist Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) pharmacy service across the Trust, working closely with primary and secondary care providers to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Provide expert advice on the prescribing, monitoring and optimisation of biologics, biosimilars, small molecules, immunomodulators and other therapies used in IBD.
  • Lead pharmacist-led outpatient clinics to initiate treatment, assess treatment response, safety, adherence and therapeutic optimisation.
  • Oversee and coordinate pharmaceutical care for patients with IBD across inpatient, outpatient and day-unit settings.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma Pharmacy Practice
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice

Desirable

  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Evidence of formal management training.
  • Independent prescriber within Inflammatory Bowel Disease and biologics

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and high cost drugs.
  • Excellent knowledge of commissioning and specialist medicine.
  • Experience of managing a small team.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking.
  • Experience of identifying training needs and delivering education and training programmes for all clinical staff groups.
  • Evidence of evaluating own and pharmacy staff's work to drive and deliver improvements in service quality.
  • Excellent ability to manage change within the pharmacy department and within medical and nursing teams to drive service improvements.

Desirable

  • Evidence of collaborative regional work.
  • Experience of delivering research projects and influencing changes in practice.
  • Evidence of managing and developing a pharmacy service or section

Skills, Abilities & Attributes

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise, persuade and influence the executive team, senior managers, and senior clinical staff.
  • Ability to manage services provided by homecare by rigorous review and the ability to identify and manage risks.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills and demonstrates the integration of research evidence into practice.
  • IT literate, including use of spreadsheets to capture and manipulate data, search for evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent ability to prioritise a complex workload and work accurately under pressure.
