Lead Technician Radiopharmacy, manages the day to day running of the radiopharmacy department ensuring a service can be provided for the Trust (Medical Physics) and external customers.
The radiopharmacy produces sterile ready to administer radioactive tracers for diagnostic imaging and some therapeutic applications. Maintains regulatory compliance with MHRA standards and regulations such as IRR and be a radiation protection supervisor.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate the day to day running and operational management of the radiopharmacy service which operates under MHRA Manufacturer's Specials (MS) License, including providing services to the following:
Preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and doses for BTHFT.
Preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits for external customers.
To deputise for the Production Manager, and subsequently fulfil the MHRA duties described for a Production Manager in the current version of "Rules & Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors."
Work as Radiation Protection Supervisor for department attending meetings as required.
To maintain and improve the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS).
To ensure the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice are adhered to and always upheld within the radiopharmacy unit.

Job responsibilities
An opportunity has arisen for a key managerial role within the production team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHSFT Radiopharmacy Department. The team manufacture sterile diagnostic radiolabelled tracers within a clean room environment for hospital patients with various conditions.
The job would suit an experienced pharmacy technician or qualified experienced clinical pharmaceutical scientist, a normal day in this job is varied and includes the management of the service, being involved in production of radiopharmaceuticals, training of staff, maintaining and improving the pharmaceutical quality system, stock management, ensuring compliance with all regulations including Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR) and performing Radiation protection supervisor duties.

- Significant experience of Technical Pharmacy service delivery with substantial post qualification experience.
- Experience of supervising or mentoring staff
- Experience of working under a Manufacturer's Specials (MS) Licence or "Section 10 Exemption" Aseptic unit
- Experience of working in Radiopharmacy

Qualifications
Essential
- Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ) or MSc in Clinical Pharmaceutical Practice (or to be within the remaining 6 months of study) or equivalent relevant qualification
- Postgraduate Diploma / Masters in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences or willing to work towards this
- Qualified technicians must be registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have significant post qualification experience. Qualified Healthcare Scientists must be registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council.
