Learning Support Assistant Year 5 | Islington Primary School
A welcoming 'Good' Primary school in Islington is looking to appoint an experienced Learning Support Assistant from September. This full-time Learning Support Assistant role will run until July 2027 and focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with challenging behaviour and additional neurodivergent needs. Located in North London with excellent transport links, this Learning Support Assistant job offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference while developing specialist SEND experience within a supportive and well-led school.
The successful Learning Support Assistant will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and pastoral team to help the pupil remain engaged, regulate behaviour and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially. This Learning Support Assistant position would suit a graduate with previous experience supporting children with SEND, challenging behaviour or neurodivergent pupils, particularly those considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, behaviour support or child development.

What You'll Be Doing:
Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
Implement behaviour strategies agreed with the SENDCo
Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
Adapt learning activities to improve engagement and progress
Work collaboratively with teachers, parents and external professionals

Graduate with a strong academic background
Previous Learning Support Assistant or SEND experience is essential
