The post is Fixed term for 2 years and involves working at FY2 level with a minimum of 2 years NHS experience required as a Locally Employed Doctoras part of the medicine care Group.

You will rotate through various specialties, which may include Care of the Elderly, Rheumatology, Respiratory, Diabetes & Endocrine, Gastroenterology, Acute Medicine and Cardiology. Each specialty consists of consultants, registrars, intermediate grade and foundation level doctors.

This post is not recognised for post graduate training. You will have the opportunity to attend teaching sessions and will be given access to e-portfolio. During this post we expect you to obtain a portfolio of knowledge and skills to progress your career and increase your competitiveness at national selection. You will be given a named supervisor. You will have a study leave budget and study leave allowance.

Main duties of the job

General Responsibilities

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in various specialties with responsibility for in-patients.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department.

To provide on call and ward cover for colleagues in respect ofperiods of leave.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

The post holder will be a member of the Cardiac Arrest Team and will receive continuing training in this field during their time in post.

The post holder will be on a rota including days, nights and weekends.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of appointment ?Medical Degree from a recognised university ?MBBS or recognised equivalent qualification ?BLS certified & in date

Desirable

  • UK Resuscitation Council ALS certified & in date: MRCP: Experience of problem-based learning: Evidence of participation in educational skills training:

Experience

Essential

  • Completion of Foundation level training or equivalent by commencement of post. ?At least two years post-graduate experience. ?Experience of working in the NHS ?Wide range of experience in general medicine ?Knowledge of current trends in medicine. ?Comprehensive patient management, ability to train/supervisor junior medical staff.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Acute Medicine
