As a Team Leader, you'll take responsibility for the safe operation of your vehicle, support and supervise your crew, and help ensure collections are delivered efficiently, professionally and to a high standard.Working outdoors and in all weather conditions, you'll be at the heart of a service that keeps local communities clean, safe and looking their best. What will you be doing?As an LGV Driver, you'll have an important role in the day-to-day delivery of the refuse and recycling service. Your responsibilities will include:
- Driving and operating refuse collection or skip collection vehicles safely and efficiently.Driving vehicles requiring an LGV Category C licence, where appropriate training has been provided.Taking day-to-day responsibility for your crew and ensuring work is completed in line with Council policies, procedures and schedules.Building positive relationships with members of the public and ensuring your team represents the service professionally.Carrying out routine vehicle checks, including oil and water checks, and ensuring safety equipment such as stops and chains is available and operational.Operating and cleaning vehicle power mechanisms and associated equipment.Completing required paperwork and documentation accurately.Supporting refuse collection duties when not driving, including the collection of household, industrial and commercial waste and recyclable materials.Clearing spillages, loose refuse and litter safely and appropriately.Reporting damaged, missing or unemptied bins and identifying refuse storage or collection issues.Using vehicle radio communications equipment in accordance with relevant legislation.Communicating collection changes to residents through agreed procedures.Identifying, recording and reporting public safety hazards and environmental issues.Carrying out bulky waste collections when required, using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
- Hold the appropriate LGV Category C driving licence.Put safety first - for yourself, your crew and members of the public.Be confident taking responsibility for a team and ensuring work is completed effectively.Communicate professionally and courteously with the public.Be flexible and adaptable to changing service requirements.Take pride in maintaining high standards and representing the Council positively.Be comfortable working outdoors and in all weather conditions.Follow health and safety requirements, Council procedures and relevant legislation.Be willing to participate in training and development to maintain and enhance your skills.
