The Opportunity
An established and expanding Central London law firm is seeking a Litigation Solicitor to join its busy Civil Litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with 2–3 years’ PQE who is looking to take ownership of a varied caseload, work closely with clients, and play an active role in the continued growth of the department.
The role would particularly suit a candidate with experience in Landlord & Tenant disputes and housing-related litigation, although broader civil litigation experience will also be considered.
The position is available on either a permanent employed basis or as a consultant solicitor operating under a fee-sharing arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
Civil Litigation Caseload
- Manage a mixed caseload of civil litigation matters from instruction through to conclusion.
- Advise on Landlord & Tenant disputes, including:
- Possession proceedings
- Rent arrears claims
- Disrepair matters
- Housing-related disputes
- Draft pleadings, applications, witness statements, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
- Conduct negotiations and explore ADR and settlement opportunities where appropriate.
- Attend County Court hearings and liaise with Counsel when required.
- Ensure clients receive clear, practical, and commercially focused advice throughout the life of the matter.
Client Relationship & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Assist in generating new instructions, referrals, and repeat business.
- Maintain accurate time recording and billing practices.
- Identify opportunities to introduce clients to other legal services within the firm.
- Participate in networking, marketing, and other business development initiatives.
Compliance & Team Support
- Comply with all SRA regulatory requirements and internal risk management procedures.
- Keep up to date with developments in civil procedure, housing law, and relevant case law.
- Provide guidance and support to junior fee earners or paralegals where appropriate.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative and professional team culture.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales.
- 2–3 years’ post-qualification experience in civil litigation.
- Experience handling Landlord & Tenant and/or housing litigation matters.
- Ability to manage an independent caseload with minimal supervision.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of billing and fee recovery.
- Excellent communication and client care skills.
Desirable
- Experience in additional areas such as:
- Contract disputes
- Property-related litigation
- Debt recovery
- Employment-related civil disputes
- Personal injury litigation
- Familiarity with Small Claims, Fast Track, and Multi-Track procedures.
- Previous experience supervising junior staff.
- An existing referral network or client following would be advantageous.
Salary & Engagement
Permanent Position
- Salary up to £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience and billing capability).
- Full-time, office-based role in Central London.
