Direct Medics is recruiting a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Vitreoretinal Surgery for a long‑term locum opportunity at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH), Belfast.

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Northern Ireland's leading tertiary ophthalmology centres, working within a highly specialised service managing a wide range of retinal and vitreoretinal conditions. The ophthalmology service at RVH provides specialist care across cataract, glaucoma, corneal disease, medical and surgical retina, neuro‑ophthalmology, paediatric ophthalmology and ocular emergency services.

The Role

The successful candidate will be involved in the assessment and management of complex retinal conditions including:

  • Vitreoretinal surgery
  • Retinal detachments
  • Macular disorders
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Retinal vascular disease
  • Medical and surgical retina clinics
  • Multi-disciplinary retinal care pathways

Working within a busy tertiary referral centre, you'll collaborate with experienced ophthalmologists, specialist nurses, optometrists and allied healthcare professionals delivering high‑quality patient care.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid GMC Registration with full Licence to Practice
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Minimum 6 months of medical experience in this role or a similar role within the UK
