We are seeking a consultant with enthusiasm,commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within thecommunity to help lead the organisation.

We are looking to appoint a new Locum Consultant in ENT (Otology) that will enhance the serviceof our ENT department that covers a population of approximately 560,000 patients with on-callcover population of around 1 million (shared with West Herts NHS Trust). The Trust is the largestin Hertfordshire and in the Integrated care services network.The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualifiedConsultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active partin the programme.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide general ENT service with oncall cover for East and North Herts and West Herts (all of Hertfordshire)
  • To work alongside existing consultants to provide cover for the trust and region
  • To develop new services
  • To participate in the department's teaching, audit, research and educational activities

Person specification

Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • Higher surgical training in ENT within a recognised programme

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalen)

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Broad range of experience in ENT
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues?
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for, full and independent expert diagnostic opinion?
  • Evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Skills

Essential

  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and he learning from errors
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
