Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine
Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine to join our team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical care, contribute to service development, and educate and train resident staff. This is a fixed term locum post, with potential for substantive for appropriate applicant and applicants will be expected to have interest and suitable experience within intensive care. The post allows to include sessions in intensive care and, flexibility to include sessions in anaesthesia, medical specialities and emergency medicine. In conjunction with the existing consultants, the appointee has opportunities to lead developments in services within the Trust. This substantive post will be based in Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow and will be responsible for providing high-quality Intensive care services and/ or another specialty as qualified, to The Princess Alexandra Hospital that assumes responsibility for the patients within the catchment area in co-operation with Consultant colleagues in all clinical departments. The department has historically led the way in holding senior medical management roles and we would look to new consultants to join our group of educational supervisors.Main duties of the job
Provide expert clinical care in intensive care medicine, and on-call services. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions in hospital and community settings. Contribute to the development and implementation of integrated clinical guidelines and protocols. Supervise and support resident medical staff. Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement, and research activities. Participate in clinical governance and risk management. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation. Collaborate with colleagues across departments and external partners. Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, resident doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Participate in postgraduate education and training programmes. Participate in departmental meetings and service planning. Contribute to workforce planning and service redesign initiatives. Take on leadership roles as appropriate within the department or Trust.About us

Mon-Fri 08.00-18.00 Theatre lists/clinic/ward round AM 08.00-13.00, PM 13.00-18.00
Evenings 18.00-21.30 (Resident on call)
Sat –Sun 08.00-14.00 (Resident on call)
The consultant on-call commitment has a regular on-call weekday night of 1 in 8, e.g. alternate Mondays and 1 weekend in 8. On-call activities count for 2 PAs per week: 1PA reflecting the times the consultant is expected to be resident in the hospital as given above and 1PA for unpredictable work when the consultant may be called back to the hospital.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full Registration with the GMC with licence to practise
- FFICM or equivalent
- CCT (or equivalent) with entry on Specialist Register for ICM or within six months of anticipated CCT data on the date of interview
Desirable
- Additional degree or post- graduate qualification (PhD, MD etc)
- Post-graduate prizes
- MSc/Diploma/PG certification in Peri operative medicine or equivalent
- Management/leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
- Broad and relevant clinical experience in the specialty
- Experience in teaching and supervising resident doctors and medical students
- Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement
- Higher training in Intensive Care Medicine
- Advanced Life support (ALS)
Desirable
- ALS or EPALS Instructor
- Experience in curriculum development or educational leadership
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals; involvement in clinical research or trials
- Previous experience working in the NHS or similar healthcare system
