Job summary

Radiology Services is seeking to appoint a new full time (10 PA) Locum Consultant. The post is for 12 months and is required to fill temporary vacancies and to meet increasing demand for our services.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Guy's and St. Thomas'. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.

The post is primarily to cover general radiology, however, an interest in oncology imaging is welcome, and other subspecialty interests would be considered, particularly within breast or gastrointestinal imaging. It is expected that the post holder will be involved in the full range of adult diagnostic radiology and have experience in acute imaging. The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to oncology multidisciplinary team meetings.

Job responsibilities

Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guys & St Thomas sites and includes on-call commitments. As a department we are open to flexible working patterns which suit the Department and individual needs with agreement with the Clinical Director and Clinical Lead.

Remote Home Reporting solution has been deployed to the radiologists across all subspecialties. A proposed job plan is provided below, and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan, including personal and professional objectives, with the Clinical Director within 3 months of starting.

This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends. It is stressed that as part of the Directorates move to extended working that the post holder may be asked to include weekend sessions as part of their regular job plan.

Person specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT.
  • FRCR or equivalent

Clinical Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Completion of specialist radiology training programme Independent performance and reporting of general CT< MRI and X-ray imaging.

Desirable

  • Experience in participating and leading multidisciplinary meetings
  • Experience of Independent MDM work

Audit Management and IT

Essential

  • Understand the role of clinical governance and audit in a successful department.
  • Management and IT skills.
  • Understanding of principles of audit.

Desirable

  • Specific audits in Radiology.

Research, Teaching skill & experience

Essential

  • Understand the importance of research and its role in imaging.
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.

Desirable

  • Track record of published research in peer reviewed publications.
  • Innovative and enthusiastic approach to imaging research

Leadership / Management skills

Essential

  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate a team.
