Locum Consultant Neonatologist
Job summary
Advertising for Locum Consultant Neonatologist, 12 month fixed term. This is a full time post for 10 programmed activities.
Less than full time applications are welcomed with appropriate job plan adjustment following discussion.
The postholder will manage and take overall responsibility for the health care for a proportion of all babies delivered in Bradford and needing admission to the neonatal unit or transitional care. The postholder will participate in an on call rota, on a 1 in 7 basis. Service periods will usually be a week at a time, and will be shared between consultants.
Outpatient services will be provided to all babies allocated to the care of the postholder. These outpatient clinics will not be held when the postholder is on service.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide and supervise general neonatal care to those well infants who are cared for on postnatal wards, and collaborate with other disciplines to continue to enhance the services provided.
The postholder may lead on one or more service developments to be agreed with the consultant team.

Job responsibilities
The postholder will share responsibility for managing the neonatal service with colleagues, the unit manager and senior management.
The postholder will share responsibility for providing line management and support to trainee doctors, including providing support to QI / audit projects and supporting a proportion of the trainees through educational supervision.

Experience
Essential
- Evidence of completing a period of approved training in Neonatology or equivalent experience
Skills
Essential
- Ability to perform the requirements of the post
- Excellent communication skills
- Commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with other health professionals and organisations
- Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
- Outpatient experience in the management of graduates from neonatal care and those with medical problems consequent from congenital anomalies
- Experience of antenatal diagnosis and investigation of "at risk" pregnancies, working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of developing services through research, audit or literature review
Desirable
- NLS instructor
- Research experience, leading to presentations of findings at learned societies or publication in peer reviewed journals
- Formal training and experience in developmental assessment
Qualifications
Essential
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCPCH (UK) or equivalent
- GMC and continue to hold a licence to practise
