Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded team. The post is for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician for 6 months. You will be part of a team of 32 Consultants that provide care within the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The unit was rated as Good by the CQC in March 2025.

The post-holder will be required to provide the full range of obstetric skills such as managing the Labour Ward, Section Lists and Maternity Assessment Unit in collaboration with existing consultants.

This post is based primarily at University Hospital of North Midlands. Clinical Duties will be across the Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites with a total of 9.739 PA. You will participate in the following on-call:

Obstetric on-call -You will participate in a 1:16 weekday on call obstetric rota and a 1:7.7 weekend obstetric on-call. (Weekends are Split to align presence and on-call - on a Friday & Sunday sequence, followed by a Saturday sequence)

Main duties of the job

This post is based at University Hospital of North Midlands. Clinical Duties will be across both the Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites.

The University Hospital is the main teaching hospital for the Keele University Undergraduate Medical School and there are close ties with the University of Keele and Staffordshire University.

The successful candidate will have MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification . The candidate will also have CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of interview) and be on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for entry within 6 months of date of interview.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • CCST or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT within 6 months of date of the AAC
  • SITM/ATSM - Advanced Labour Ward / High Risk Antenatal

Desirable

  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD, PhD, FRCS)
Clinical Experience & Training

Essential

  • Approaching independence with complex obstetric care, complex obstetric operating & Labour ward experience
  • Ability to work within acute care team to promote planning and safety
