Job summary

Main duties of the job

To undertake unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work, that does not justify the attention of a fully qualified craftsperson.

To assist skilled operatives in carrying our PPM, repair and new works.

Act as a second person, for safety reasons, for work in confined spaces or where ladders are used.

To undertake, unsupervised, PPM and minor repair work related to training and experience.

Job responsibilities

Duties may include: Clean kitchen extractor fans. Repair beds. Strip down and clean trolley wheels. Change light bulbs. Remove / repair low level WC / cisterns. Re-washer ball valves, taps, WC siphons etc. Fit replacement taps. Fit replacement radiator.

Other duties: Collect spares from wholesalers / stockists. Perform routine work, including labouring. Learn and undertake work of a maintenance nature, subject to appropriate training which does not require a fully trained/qualified craftsperson. Subject to appropriate training and confirmation of competence, undertake Portable Appliance Testing using appropriate test and logging equipment to meet statutory requirements. Subject to appropriate training and confirmation of competence, operate steam raising boiler plant including the checking of steam pressures and reporting of defects to the line manager. Subject to the appropriate training and confirmation of competence, provide clinical waste services. To use relevant tools and equipment as appropriate To demonstrate a basic knowledge of workshop safety practices. To assist higher skilled grades of all trades on new work and repairs. To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as delegated. To comply with all Health & Safety requirements as appropriate. To work overtime as required.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable relevant experience and ability
  • To be able to meet the main duties and responsibility of the post.
  • Ability to work unsupervised either individually or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work to documented procedures.

Desirable

  • Have previous working experience or training in skills development that include the safe use of tools and equipment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A A relevant qualification to demonstrate 'Competence for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment' if this element of the Duties is undertaken.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
