Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Matron's to work across our Perinatal services within the Women's Services Directorate as part of the Family Health Clinical Board.
We are looking to recruit highly motivated and dynamic individuals who will support clinical leaders to develop high clinical and professional standards and lead the department with the quality improvement and ensure systems are processes are in place to deliver safe Perinatal care. You will be expected to have 24 hour accountability and have strong knowledge of environmental standards and leadership expertise.

Post 2 - Fixed Term/Secondment 6 months from date of appointment

Main duties of the job
- Have professional accountability for standards ensuring professional practices are of a high standard
- Ensure environmental standards and cleanliness are in line with Trust expectations
- Contribute to development of patient care and midwifery practice
- Lead on quality improvement to enhance the service user and staff experience
- Effectively manage the midwifery resource
- Provide appropriate leadership and supervision and support to midwives and ward managers

Job responsibilities
- The Matron has 24 hour accountability for the wards and departments in their Directorate.
- They must ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
- Deputies for Directorate Manager/Associate Director of Midwifery as required / appropriate and is part of Directorate Management Team.

KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
- Maintain and improve professional knowledge, skills and competence
SKILLS
Essential
- Good IT skills
- Report writing skills
- Effectively manage the directorate midwifery resource
- Appropriate clinical skills
- Move and handle objects in line with Trust guidelines using appropriate aids
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Significant post registration experience, some of which must be at Band 7
- Significant experience at a senior level of managing midwifery/ clinical teams
- Audit / research experience
- Evidence of achievements in current post
- Evidence of proven leadership skills in relation to professional accountability
- Evidence of significant experience of safeguarding adults / children
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Registered Midwife (appropriate to branch)
- Current NMC registration
- Able to demonstrate academic achievement at post-graduate/masters level or significant demonstrable experience in speciality at Matron level
- Willing to undertake full Master's Degree within an agreed timescale
- Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship relevant to role
