Mechanical Design Engineer

Down based client is experiencing continued growth and is looking for a skilled engineer to join their team, supporting the design and development of innovative engineering solutions.
In this role you will work on a range of high profile European projects. You will be responsible for the design and review of mechanical systems, ensuring the design of mechanical components, including pipework, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated equipment, is in compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
The role:
- Design and develop pipework systems
- Engineer prefabricated plantroom solutions including chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, buffer vessels, supporting MEP infrastructure.
- Carry out thermal and hydraulic analysis, including flow, pressure loss, expansion, and system sizing calculations.
- Prepare mechanical schematics, layouts, fabrication drawings, technical submittals, and design documentation for approval.
- Coordinate with electrical, BMS, structural, architectural, and other MEP teams to optimise space, weight, access, and system integration.
- Support BIM coordination to achieve clash-free, fully coordinated project delivery.
- Select high-performance MEP equipment, balancing technical requirements with cost effectiveness.
- Inspect mechanical components during and after assembly, including dimensional checks, alignment, placement, and compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Provide technical guidance to assembly teams and liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors for design validation and approval.
- Stay up to date with industry advancements in modular construction and offsite fabrication techniques.
- Attend project coordination meetings and provide technical input and design updates.
Criteria:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in building services design
- Experience in design coordination, working with multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in mechanical system calculations, including pump sizing, pressure loss analysis, and redundancy planning.
- Previous hands-on experience with the assembly and installation of mechanical systems
- Excellent time management and communication skills for collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Teams).
