We are recruiting a Mechanical Design & Project Engineer for an established manufacturer of complex engineered equipment.

This is a practical, varied engineering position combining 2D/3D CAD, product adaptation, bills of materials, manufacturing support and project problem-solving.

Working within a small and experienced technical team, you will adapt established mechanical products to suit individual customer applications. This will involve interpreting technical and interface information, modifying drawings and models, and supporting the equipment through manufacture and assembly.

The position goes beyond producing drawings. You will work with manufacturing, purchasing, quality and suppliers to resolve the practical issues that arise as projects progress. These could involve component availability, supplier deviations, non-conforming parts, assembly problems or design changes identified on the shop floor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce and modify detailed 2D drawings and 3D models
  • Create assemblies and maintain accurate engineering BOMs
  • Interpret specifications, dimensions and technical interface information
  • Support the integration of hydraulic hoses, pipework and associated equipment
  • Investigate manufacturing and assembly problems
  • Provide practical engineering support to production
  • Work with purchasing, quality, suppliers and manufacturing teams
  • Assess supplier deviations, component issues and NCRs
  • Take ownership of technical problems and keep projects progressing

YOUR BACKGROUND

We would like to hear from people with experience as a:

  • Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Mechanical Project Engineer
  • Design Draughtsperson
  • Senior Mechanical Draughtsperson
  • Mechanical Applications Engineer

You should be comfortable producing mechanical drawings, 3D models, assemblies and bills of materials. You should also understand how engineered products are manufactured and assembled.

Experience involving hydraulic equipment, pipework, hoses, fabricated structures, machining or complex mechanical assemblies would be advantageous.

You could be apprenticeship-trained, HNC/HND qualified or degree qualified. Your practical design and manufacturing experience will carry more weight than your particular academic route.

This is not primarily a calculations, analysis or greenfield product-development role. It will suit someone who enjoys adapting established products, supporting manufacturing and resolving practical engineering issues.

The successful candidate will be required on-site throughout the initial three-month training and product-familiarisation period. The role will remain predominantly site-based thereafter, although occasional homeworking flexibility may be available.

Please note that our client is unfortunately unable to offer visa sponsorship. We can therefore only progress applications from candidates who already have permanent, unrestricted and non-time-limited eligibility to work in the UK.
