Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator | M&E Building Services | Southampton, Hampshire | £45,000£60,000 + Car or Car Allowance + Benefits An established M&E Building Services contractor based in the Southampton area is looking to appoint a Junior or Intermediate Mechanical Estimator to join its pre-construction team.

This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who already has mechanical estimating experience and is looking to continue developing their career, while the company would also consider an experienced mechanical building services professional who is looking to transition into an estimating role.
The business delivers mechanical and electrical projects across a broad range of sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, leisure, industrial, public-sector and refurbishment environments, with projects typically ranging from approximately £100,000 through to £5 million.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced members of the estimating and pre-construction team, gaining exposure to a varied tender workload and the opportunity to further develop their knowledge across the full mechanical estimating process.
The Role As Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator, your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and assisting with accurate and competitive mechanical tenders
Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
Undertaking quantity take-offs and preparing material and equipment schedules
Obtaining and analysing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
Calculating labour, material and subcontractor costs
Preparing cost plans, tender summaries and supporting documentation
Pricing mechanical installations including HVAC, heating, ventilation, pipework, plantrooms and public-health systems
Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams
Supporting value-engineering exercises and tender reviews
Assisting with the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team
Developing a strong understanding of the complete mechanical estimating and pre-construction process
The Ideal Candidate The company is flexible regarding the exact level of experience and would consider candidates from either of the following backgrounds:
A Junior or Intermediate Mechanical Estimator with experience gained within an M&E or Mechanical Building Services contractor
An experienced mechanical building services professional looking to transition into estimating, potentially from a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Design Engineer, CAD Technician, or similar technical/project-delivery background
You should ideally have:
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services installations
A good understanding of HVAC, heating, ventilation, pipework and associated mechanical systems
The ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation
Good commercial and numerical awareness
Strong attention to detail
Good communication and organisational skills
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a pre-construction team
A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within mechanical estimating
Previous estimating experience would be advantageous, although it is not essential for somebody with the right mechanical building services background, technical knowledge and aptitude to make the transition.
Experience using Ensign or similar estimating software would also be advantageous but is not essential. xwzovoh
Remuneration The successful Junior / Intermediate Mechanical Estimator will receive:
£45,000£60,000 basic salary, dependent upon experience
