We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established heavy manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled engineer looking to work within a challenging, high-volume industrial environment where reliability, safety and continuous improvement are key. You will play a vital role in maintaining a wide range of heavy industrial machinery and production equipment, ensuring maximum plant availability and minimising costly production downtime. Key Responsibilities * Carry out planned, preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across the manufacturing site. * Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on heavy production machinery and plant. * Work on equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical drive systems. * Respond quickly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime. * Carry out inspections and identify potential equipment failures before they occur. * Strip, overhaul, repair and rebuild mechanical equipment. * Assist with the installation, modification and commissioning of new and existing machinery. * Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives across the site. * Maintain accurate maintenance records and update the CMMS system. * Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company health & safety procedures. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will have: * A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent. * Previous experience working as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter/Engineer within heavy manufacturing, engineering or an industrial environment. * Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. * Experience working with bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics. * The ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings. * Experience carrying out planned and preventative maintenance. * A proactive approach to fault finding and continuous improvement. * The ability to work effectively under pressure within a demanding production environment. * A strong commitment to health & safety.
