Job summary

Working as part of the team in our busy but friendly Medical Centres (located in Birkenhead & Wallasey). Must be enthusiastic, motivated and flexible.

Permanent (37 hours per week) on a rota basis to include early starts from 7.45am and late finishes of 8:00pm.

IT skills are essential and admin experience would be an advantage although training will be provided.

Required education:

  • High school or equivalent

About us

Miriam Primary Care Group currently consists of 2 practices located in Birkenhead and Wallasey providing excellent medical care and support to around 16,500 patients. We are also a training practice supporting GP Trainees through their career journeys.

We provide a Minor Injury and Illness service to all Wirral patients as well as hosting additional services provided via our PCN, which include: Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Health Coach, Social Prescribing, Enhanced Access to name a few.

JOB TITLE: MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST

REPORTS TO: RECEPTION MANAGER/PRACTICE MANAGER

Job Responsibilities:

To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.

To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.

To work in accordance of written protocols

Reception

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments using the clinical system

Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment, but who need urgent consultation, are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed

Administration

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail

Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures

Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same

Action pathology links on daily basis

Action all patient/hospital query responses from GPs via Task list

Scan clinical letters onto clinical system

Gain understanding of E-Referral system for submission of e-referrals

Photocopy as requested

Other Tasks

Tidy waiting room in between surgeries in turn with other staff

Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.

Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter

Make and serve refreshments and ensure the kitchen is kept tidy and clean

Any other tasks allocated by manager

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualifications and Training

  • Good standard of general education (such as GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent experience). Essential Application / Certificates
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) or willingness to undertake role-specific training. Essential Application / Interview

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Customer Service, Administration, or Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification). Desirable Application / Certificates
