Job summary
We are seeking a professional and organised Part-Time Medical Secretary to provide administrative and secretarial support within our busy GP practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing clinical correspondence, processing referrals, maintaining accurate patient records, liaising with hospitals and community services, and supporting clinicians with day-to-day administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work confidentially and efficiently in a healthcare environment. Previous medical secretarial or NHS primary care experience is desirable, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and clinical systems.
This role requires a patient-focused approach, the ability to prioritise workloads, and a commitment to delivering high-quality administrative support to the practice team.

We also work collaboratively with our Neighbouring Practices, Community & Voluntary Sector Colleagues, to support and deliver services to our patients in the community. We are a GMS Practice. Practice list size 5800 patients. Fully computerised-EMIS Web Clinical System. High QOF/Enhanced Service achievers. CQC Rating overall good.
The Team: 2 x GP Partners, 4 x Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, HCA, Practice Manager, Admin & Reception Team, ARR-PCN Staff.
Job responsibilities
The Medical Secretary provides comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to GPs and the wider clinical team, ensuring the efficient management of clinical correspondence, referrals, and patient-related documentation. The role involves maintaining accurate patient records, liaising with hospitals and other healthcare providers, processing referrals and reports, and supporting the smooth delivery of patient care. The post holder must demonstrate excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a busy primary care environment while providing a high standard of administrative support.

Qualifications
Essential
- A good standard of education, with an expectation of having both GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English
- Typing qualification, i.e., OCR or RSA Diploma
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
- Level 3 in Medical Terminology
