12 month fixed term position, full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Specialist Surgery team at Rotherham General Hospital as a Full-Time Medical Secretary supporting the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) service. This role has become available following the retirement of a valued team member and offers the chance to work within a friendly, supportive, and dedicated team.

We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic individual with strong administrative, communication, and IT skills who can provide comprehensive secretarial support to a busy clinical service. The successful candidate will be responsible for transcribing a high volume of clinical correspondence, reports, and letters, ensuring accuracy and completion within agreed timescales. In addition, the post holder will be required to take accurate minutes at meetings on a rota basis, producing clear and professional records of discussions and actions.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with excellent organisational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, good IT skills with experience of Windows-based systems, an RSA II qualification (or equivalent experience), experience in minute taking, and the ability to manage competing priorities within a busy healthcare environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE English (or equivalent), Grade C/Level 4 or above

  • Word processing, RSA III typing or equivalent or working towards
  • ECDL, Clait or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience working as a medical secretary or typist including medical audio transcription
  • Current experience of Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet packages
  • Minute-taking experience

  • Demonstrable experience of Meditech
