The Port of Blyth is the operating division of the Blyth Harbour Commission, a modern statutory Trust Port with a group turnover in excess of £30 million. The Port handles a wide variety of trades, but in particular is recognised as one of the UKs leading offshore energy hubs.

The group also includes Transped (international forwarding and logistics company) and Port Training Services (national port and industrial training provider).

The Port has grown successfully over the last decade and has exciting plans for further expansion. The Role

Blyth Harbour Commission oversees the strategy and management of the Port and is seeking to appoint a non-executive board member (Commissioner) to play an active role in delivering future growth and prosperity for the benefit of stakeholders which include employees, commercial and leisure port users, the local community and wider regional economy.

Applications are invited from candidates with a financial background, who are ideally able to demonstrate proven expertise and experience in any of the following areas:

Senior leadership in finance, accountancy, banking, corporate finance, or related discipline

Strong understanding of financial governance, risk management, and strategic planning

Experience of infrastructure financing, major capital projects, or asset-intensive organisations

Knowledge of grant funding programmes and public sector funding mechanisms

Broader senior level business management involvement

Board or non-executive experience, with the ability to provide independent challenge and strategic oversight The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of the region and Port of Blyth.

Board meetings are held on a bimonthly basis with additional commitments to attend the Annual Public Meeting, sub-committee meetings (if applicable) and occasional other functions.

The position will commence from 1 January 2027, is for an initial 2-year term and is remunerated. How to Apply
