Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional and committed Non-Executive Director (NED) with a finance specialism to join our Board and help provide strategic leadership, robust governance and independent oversight for our NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about improving patient care, supporting staff and ensuring the long-term sustainability and success of NHS services.

The Trust is looking to appoint a financially-qualified individual with Board-level strategic financial leadership experience, drawn from a track record working in complex highly regulated sector/s. The successful candidate will be able to join the Audit & Assurance Committee and Finance Committee and be a part of the committee chair succession planning.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a vital role in supporting the Trust's vision and strategic priorities. Working closely with the Chair, fellow Board members and Council of Governors, you will provide constructive challenge, independent judgement and leadership to ensure the Trust delivers high-quality, safe and financially sustainable services.

You will help shape strategic direction while ensuring effective oversight of organisational performance, risk management and governance arrangements.

Person specification

Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • Genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of outstanding healthcare services
  • Demonstrable interest in health and social care and a strong desire to achieve the best sustainable outcomes for patients, service users, colleagues and local communities
  • Understanding of governance, assurance, risk and the role of a unitary Board

Desirable

  • Understanding of NHS Foundation Trust governance, Council of Governors accountability and the wider Integrated Care System

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional accountancy, audit, finance or equivalent qualification, and/or demonstrable senior finance leadership experience gained in a large, complex commercial or public sector organisation

  • Board development, governance or leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Senior finance leadership experience in a complex organisation
  • Ability to scrutinise financial, quality and performance information effectively, provide constructive challenge, contribute to strategic debate and support effective decision-making
  • Experience of building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, partners and communities

Desirable

  • Experience in transformation, improvement, digital change, major service redesign or delivery of long-term strategic change
  • Knowledge of audit, assurance, financial risk, capital planning or financial governance within a regulated environment
  • Prior Board experience, either executive or non-executive, in any sector
