We are currently recruiting for an experienced Passive Fire Surveyor to join a growing team working across a range of projects, including higher-risk buildings. We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge of fire safety, compartmentation and passive fire protection, who can independently identify defects and non-compliances and produce clear, professional survey reports. The Role As a Passive Fire Surveyor, you will be responsible for carrying out detailed compartmentation and passive fire surveys, identifying non-compliances and providing clear recommendations for remedial works. Your responsibilities will include: * Conducting passive fire and compartmentation surveys across a variety of building types. * Identifying non-compliances and defects within existing passive fire protection systems. * Assessing the adequacy and continuity of compartmentation lines. * Interpreting fire strategies, fire plans, drawings and specifications. * Understanding compartmentation principles rather than simply inspecting individual fire-stopping products. * Producing formal and detailed survey reports, clearly documenting findings and recommendations. * Working with clients, contractors and other stakeholders to communicate technical findings. * Ensuring surveys are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards. Technical Knowledge & Experience The successful candidate will have: * A strong understanding of fire strategies and relevant Building Regulations. * Good knowledge of compartmentation principles and passive fire protection. * The ability to interpret construction drawings, fire plans and specifications. * Proven experience identifying defects and non-compliance across multiple construction types. * Experience carrying out compartmentation / passive fire surveys. * Strong technical report-writing skills. * An understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. * Awareness of Golden Thread requirements and Building Safety Act implications, particularly within higher-risk buildings. Qualifications & Competence Ideally, you will hold one or more of the following: * Level 3 or Level 4 Fire Safety qualification * IFE certification/membership * BM TRADA certification * FDIS qualification * Recognised Fire Door or Fire Compartmentation Inspector qualification * Other relevant third-party accreditation or industry-recognised training Important: An NVQ Level 2 alone is not considered a surveying qualification for this position. For higher-risk buildings, candidates will need to demonstrate a higher level of professional competence, ideally through Level 3+ qualifications, third-party certification and/or substantial documented surveying experience. Candidates who may not hold all of the above qualifications will still be considered where they can demonstrate: * A proven track record of conducting compartmentation surveys. * Relevant additional training, such as FDIS, ASFP Level 3/4 or IFC Inspector courses. * Evidence of ongoing professional development through CPD records. * A professional portfolio demonstrating previous surveying work. * Relevant third-party accreditation. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is technically competent, thorough and confident working independently. You should be able to look beyond individual fire-stopping products and understand the overall compartmentation strategy of a building, identifying whether compartment lines are adequate, continuous and compliant. Experience working on higher-risk buildings would be highly advantageous
