Job summary

Pathology Stores and Logistics, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, is looking for 1 new driver to join our out of hours team.

The role will operate on a rotation pattern; with 2 weekday evening shifts from 16:45 - 00:15 and 1 weekend shift either 08:30 - 16:30 or 16:30 to 00:30. There may be opportunity for overtime shifts.

Clean driving license, ability to work independently and good communication skills essential.

Main duties of the job

The role involves driving a Pathology VW caddy van between the 3 Leicester Hospitals collecting, transporting and delivering pathology samples, Pathology reagents, blood products, post and pharmacy items.

The post holder will need to and maintain patient confidentiality at all times and be able to manage their own time when driving. Lifting and handling of laboratory materials will be required.

Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensuring van checks are performed before driving.
  • Collecting and delivering pathology samples between the 3 Leicester hospitals.
  • Safely transporting patients samples to the Leicester RoyalInfirmary Pathology laboratories, following agreed processes.
  • Collecting and delivering Pharmacy products between sites.
  • Collecting and delivering post.
  • Handling and prioritising emergency collection requests.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current clean driving license

Desirable

  • Current certificate for carriage of radioisotopes
