Job Title: People Advisor - 12-month FTC Location: Doncaster Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum depending on experience Job Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract (12 months) The role: DB Cargo UK is currently recruiting for a People Advisor to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a national remit. Working closely with our Production Senior People Partner and the wider People team, you will work with managers and employees across the business on a broad range of people matters and employee relations casework. You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and will act as a key point of contact specifically for Production line managers in the Midlands and South regions, providing practical and professional advice across areas including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, sickness absence, employee wellbeing, conflict resolution and terms and conditions of employment. This is a varied role where you will build strong relationships across the business, coach and guide managers through people matters and help ensure our policies and procedures are applied fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation. This is a hybrid working role, with a requirement to travel and work across DB Cargo UK sites where needed, depending on casework and business requirements. We are offering a salary circa £40,000 per annum, depending on experience, based on a 37-hour working week, plus a car allowance of £6,500 per annum to support UK-wide travel requirements. What will you be doing? Manage your own portfolio of low-to-medium complexity employee relations cases from end to end. Provide appropriate People advice in line with current employment legislation and DB Cargo UK policies and procedures, including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, absence, terms and conditions of employment, employee wellbeing and conflict resolution. Support managers through formal meetings, hearings and investigations, providing guidance throughout the process and ensuring accurate documentation. Coach managers on the effective and consistent application of People policies and procedures, ensuring colleagues are treated fairly and in line with best practice and legislative requirements. Support managers with performance management, including objective setting, probation reviews and development plans. Take responsibility for supporting managers with short and long-term sickness absence cases, including Occupational Health referrals. Monitor attendance levels and provide advice and guidance to managers on improving attendance through positive engagement. Build effective working relationships with managers and employees across the business, acting as a trusted point of contact for People-related queries. Work closely with the wider People team to identify and recommend improvements to processes, policies and ways of working. Support updates to People procedures and policies to ensure they remain aligned with legislation and best practice. Support People reporting across areas such as absence, turnover and wider workforce metrics.What are we looking for? You will have substantial previous experience working as a People Advisor or within a similar generalist HR role, providing HR/People advice and managing your own employee relations caseload. You will be confident handling cases across areas such as disciplinary, grievance, performance and absence, and will have a strong working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice. You will be a confident communicator with strong influencing and interpersonal skills, able to build effective relationships across the business and constructively challenge where appropriate. You will also be highly organised, able to manage multiple cases and priorities at once, and comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information with sound judgement. You will be proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Experience of HR reporting, policy work, HR systems and Microsoft Office would be expected, while experience delivering HR training or coaching managers would be advantageous.You will also have: CIPD Level 5 qualification.
