Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacist to join within the Pharmacy IT Team to deliver the benefits of the Epic system and other pharmacy-related IT projects.

You will have proven experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with some experience in managing pharmacy-related IT systems and a proven track-record in project management. You will also have excellent communication skills, a commitment to patient care and performance delivery along with a strong track record of successful delivery of projects and service development experience.

The role involves leading the clinical aspects of pharmacy-related IT projects including the ongoing development of the Epic system in terms of the safe prescribing and administration of medicines. The role will also lead on other pharmacy IT projects including IT systems related to workflow and reporting relating to medicine spend including high cost drugs.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Senior Pharmacist Information Officer to design future clinical and research processes and workflows. Supporting with the medicines management aspects of GOSH's clinical systems strategy
  • Assist with the ongoing development of the EPR programme and associated ICT systems and clinical transformation projects related to medicines management
  • To be an expert in the capabilities of EPR and technology to improve patient safety and medicines optimisation and to provide direction to maximise its capabilities.
  • To work as a clinical pharmacist, delivering a ward-based pharmacy service including medicines reconciliation, drug supply, review of highly complex medication regimens, drug interaction and adverse reaction monitoring
  • Active participation on consultant ward rounds and multi-disciplinary meetings
  • Ensures that the environment, technology and infrastructure are emphasised in the prevention of medication errors and adverse events
  • Promotes the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, implementing and educating on decision support tools
  • Assists with the implementation of the pharmacy IT strategy
  • Combines knowledge of patient care, medicines management, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients to promote safe, effective, and efficient use of EPR in clinical settings
  • To act as a source of information for pharmacy IT and EPIC

  • M.Pharm or equivalent or BPharm/BSc Hons for those qualified before 2002
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council

  • Post graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or Digital Health

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Practising pharmacist working in a hospital environment
  • Good clinical knowledge and pharmaceutical care skills
  • Knowledge of pharmacy, medicines management and medicines optimisation and operational workflows and processes within a hospital environment including dispensary, procurement, homecare, technical services and ward areas
  • Experience using the EPR system Epic as an end user
  • Experience of delivering training and supervising others

Desirable

  • Experience of providing support and technical expertise on hospital EPMA systems
