Job summary

We are a friendly, well-established independent medical practice with a close-knit team, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Phlebotomist to join us.

The successful candidate will work one full day per week primarily as a Phlebotomist, carrying out blood tests and providing a professional and reassuring service to our patients.

There may also be an opportunity to work additional days as a Medical Receptionist, should they so wish, supporting the practice with day-to-day reception and administrative duties. This would suit someone who enjoys a varied role and working as part of a small, supportive team.

Main duties of the job

  • Carrying out venepuncture safely and competently
  • Providing a friendly, professional and reassuring service to patients
  • Correctly identifying, labelling and handling blood samples
  • Preparing samples for collection and ensuring they are processed appropriately
  • Maintaining accurate patient records
  • Following infection prevention and control procedures
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
  • Recognising and appropriately managing any complications arising from venepuncture
  • Ensuring equipment and the clinical area are clean, safe and well maintained

  • Person specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Recognised Phlebotomy/Venepuncture qualification or relevant accredited training
    • Demonstrable competence in venepuncture
    • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety and safe handling of clinical specimens
    • Willingness to undertake any mandatory training required by the practice

    Desirable

    • Previous experience as a Phlebotomist within a GP practice, NHS or other healthcare setting
    • Experience using EMIS or other clinical systems
