Phlebotomist
Job summary
We are seeking an experienced part time Phlebotomist to join our fantastic team. Hours will be between 25 to 30 per week, over 3.5 or 4 days across Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm (to be discussed and agreed with you at interview).

Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of the Practice Nurse Manager and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population.
In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

James Fisher Medical Centre is a well-established and successful General Practice located in a residential area of Bournemouth and is a part of the Central Bournemouth PCN.
We provide primary care services to 12,500 patients and employ over 50 hard working colleagues, both clinical and administrative. Our team includes 5 partners, 4 salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, Phlebotomists and Health Care Assistants working alongside administrative, reception teams, as well as network staff.

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols and infection control procedures
Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical system
The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Checking and labelling specimens for the laboratory including urinalysis and Dip testing
Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff
Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
