Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced, and hardworking Phlebotomist to join our friendly and supportive team at Wolseley Medical Centre for 15 hours per week. We are looking for individuals with a recognised qualification in venepuncture, who are passionate about delivering high-quality care to our patients.

Applicants should have experience working with the general public and ideally within a healthcare setting. Previous experience in a primary care environment is desirable but not essential. If you're a motivated team player with a flexible and cooperative approach to work,excellent communication skills and a commitment to patient care, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Job responsibilities

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients for medical testing. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system (SystmOne)

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Essential

  • Experience of working with the general public

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Experience of working in a GP practice
Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in venepuncture
  • Good standard of general education
