Project Details
The Planner will provide planning and project controls services on construction and infrastructure commissions in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire and the surrounding region.
The successful candidate will prepare baseline and tender programmes, monitor progress, analyse programme performance and support project teams with NEC contractual programme requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Planner will manage day-to-day planning activities while working closely with Project Managers, commercial teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
Key duties will include:
Independently preparing medium-complexity construction programmes
Developing baseline schedules for individual project phases
Using Primavera P6 and other planning software to produce programme updates and reports
Managing regular programme updates and short-term look-ahead schedules
Collecting and validating progress information from project and site teams
Monitoring progress against baseline programmes and identifying variances
Identifying critical and near-critical path activities
Carrying out programme analysis in accordance with contractual requirements
Integrating programme risks and opportunities into project schedules
Supporting the development of programme mitigation and recovery measures
Preparing schedule narratives, dashboards and status reports for project teams
Reporting clearly on project performance, key milestones and emerging delays
Working with Project Managers, commercial teams and subcontractors to obtain schedule inputs
Applying NEC contractual programme obligations and submission requirements
Contributing to contract reviews and programme compliance assessments
Supporting early warning, change and compensation event processes
Preparing tender and pre-construction programmes
Developing sequencing strategies and supporting construction methodology reviews
Applying company planning standards and governance procedures consistently
Supporting junior planning colleagues and contributing to improvements within the planning function Desired Skills and Experience
The successful Planner will have practical construction planning experience and be comfortable managing defined programme responsibilities with limited supervision.
Candidates should demonstrate:
Previous experience working as a Planner, Project Planner or Planning Engineer
Practical experience using Primavera P6
Experience preparing and updating construction programmes
A sound understanding of programme logic, sequencing and critical path methodology
Experience producing baseline, progress and look-ahead programmes
Practical knowledge of NEC contracts and contractual programme requirements
Experience identifying programme risks, delays and opportunities
The ability to produce clear schedule narratives and project reports
Experience supporting tender or pre-construction planning activities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and stakeholder-management capabilities
The ability to work collaboratively with project, commercial and site teams
Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and related reporting tools
Consultancy experience is desirable, although relevant contractor-side experience will also be considered Qualifications/Educational Requirements
A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management or another relevant discipline is preferred
Demonstrable Primavera P6 experience is required
Practical NEC contract knowledge and experience are required
Membership of APM, CIOB, ICE or another relevant professional body is desirable
Additional planning, project controls or delay-analysis training would be advantageous Employing Company Overview and Profile

The consultancy supports clients throughout the project life cycle, including tender planning, baseline programme development, progress monitoring, risk integration, reporting and NEC programme compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced planners and multidisciplinary project teams while developing broad consultancy and client-facing experience.
