Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our specialised educational team. This role involves supporting children with complex needs, including autism and other disabilities, within a nurturing and inclusive environment. The successful candidate will play a vital part in facilitating personalised learning experiences, promoting independence, and ensuring the well-being of pupils with profound learning difficulties. This position offers valuable experience in special education and is ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive impact on children's lives.
Duties
Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programmes for children with PMLD and autism
Support pupils with daily activities, including personal care and mobility needs, in accordance with individual care plans
Implement sensory activities and communication strategies to foster engagement and development
Observe and record behavioural responses and progress, providing feedback to the teaching team
Support social interaction by encouraging participation in group activities and fostering positive behaviour
Maintain a safe, clean, and organised learning environment at all times
Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote emotional security and confidence
Assist in preparing resources and adapting materials to meet individual learning requirements
Skills
Experience working with individuals with autism or profound learning disabilities is highly desirable
Previous experience in teaching or supporting children within special education settings
Knowledge of special educational needs (SEN), particularly PMLD, is advantageous
Ability to communicate effectively with children who have complex communication needs, utilising alternative methods if necessary
Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting children with diverse needs
Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently whilst maintaining attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, pupils, and families
Enthusiasm for supporting children's development and fostering an inclusive environment
