Our client, a highly respected global professional membership body operating within the offshore marine sector, is seeking a Policy & Advocacy Manager to support its growing international advocacy programme.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced policy professional who enjoys working with complex regulatory issues and wants to influence international policy on behalf of a global industry.
Reporting to the Policy & Advocacy Director, you will monitor international legislative and regulatory developments affecting members and play a key role in the organisation’s engagement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). You will translate complex policy developments into clear, compelling briefings and ensure that industry expertise is effectively represented within the international policymaking process.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring global legislative and regulatory developments affecting members
- Supporting and managing the organisation’s engagement programme with the International Maritime Organization
- Producing policy briefings, consultation responses, position papers and other advocacy materials
- Building productive relationships with flag states, international organisations, regulators and other influential stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities for collaboration and policy influence
- Working closely with internal technical experts and member committees to gather evidence and develop policy positions
- Ensuring that member and industry expertise is brought directly into the policymaking process
- Providing clear and timely internal updates on international policy developments
- Developing policy content for use by the communications team
- Supporting targeted advocacy activity in international markets outside Europe
- Representing the organisation externally and travelling internationally when required
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of working on international or multi-country policy, ideally within a membership body, trade association, regulator or not-for-profit organisation
- A strong track record of engaging with government organisations, political representatives, regulators or international institutions
- An interest in policy research and the confidence to interpret complex legislative and regulatory documents
- Experience producing policy briefings, consultation responses, position papers or similar advocacy materials
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to make complex information concise, relevant and persuasive
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- The confidence to develop credible relationships with senior stakeholders and subject-matter experts
- The willingness to attend the IMO in London regularly and travel internationally when required
Previous experience of engaging with the IMO or working within the maritime sector would be particularly valuable, although candidates with relevant transferable experience from other highly regulated international sectors are also encouraged to apply. Experience gained within a trade association or industry body would also be advantageous.
This is a high-profile and varied opportunity to contribute to an ambitious international advocacy programme and ensure that members’ interests are heard at the highest levels of global policymaking.
