Report to: Head of Criminal Justice
Salary: £35,000 pa (Pro Rata)

At Breakeven we support anyone affected by gambling related harm, whether a gambler, partner, family member, friend or work colleague. The treatment we provide is free, flexible and confidential and can be delivered via face to face, telephone or online sessions. We also provide a variety of prevention services, delivering education and early intervention programmes to help reduce instances of gambling harm across the region.
Job Purpose:
Breakeven is committed to providing comprehensive support to individuals engaged with the criminal justice system in any capacity across the East and Southeast of England. This includes individuals serving prison sentences, working through probation, police services and prison and probation staff. We recognise the critical importance of addressing gambling harms to facilitate successful reintegration into society and reduce instances of reoffending. The Criminal Justice Prevention lead will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships within criminal justice establishments across the region, to build capacity to prevent gambling harm through education, awareness and early intervention. The Successful candidate will build effective relationships with prisoners, prison staff and partner agencies, encouraging referrals and ensuring individuals receive appropriate support throughout their journey.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Travel regularly between establishments as required
Deliver structured support programmes and group interventions within prison establishments
Conduct comprehensive assessments of prisoners to identify gambling related issues
Facilitate one-to-one support sessions where appropriate
Provide education and resources about gambling harms, its effects, and recovery processes
Map the landscape across the region, to identify new opportunities, key organisations and individuals of interest • Stay current with best practices and developments in gambling treatment and prison rehabilitation ethos • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards and regulations
Promote Breakeven’s gambling harm treatment and prevention work
Build and maintain relationships with, and support, organisational leaders and relevant departments to create new processes for screening for gambling harm in the individuals they work with, as well as signposting or referring into the support services, to reduce gambling harm where it exists
Accurately report activity and keep organised records of data and communication
Collate feedback from organisations, using debriefs, evaluation forms and follow-ups
Collaborate with Prevention team and wider Breakeven staff to encourage a ‘oneteam’ approach to Breakeven’s Strategy.
Provide regular scheduled updates to Head of Criminal Justice and Senior Leadership Team
Person Specification

Qualifications/ Knowledge
- Understanding of addiction, recovery processes and co-occurring disorders
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and awareness of safeguarding procedures
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
Experience
- Experience working with vulnerable adults, offenders or within criminal justice, health or social care settings
Experience delivering group programmes, structured interventions, workshops or other educational programmes
Experience building relationships with service users and partner agencies, and stakeholder management in the non-profit / charity / public sector, with a record of securing buy-in
Delivering presentations to varied audiences and facilitating training products digitally and in person
Persuading and supporting external organisations to change their processes in line with best practice
Skills
- Ability to engage reluctant or difficult to reach individuals
Excellent stakeholder engagement with the ability to identify, establish and maintain productive relationships
Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, supported by strong use of IT – confident using Microsoft Office and CRM tools
Ability to maintain accurate stakeholder records, feeding into shared stakeholder maps
Circumstances
- Able to travel regularly to multiple sites across region
Enhance DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to satisfy prison security clearance requirements
Full UK Driving Licence and access to vehicle for work purposes
Desirable
- (D) Experience working with prison establishments, probation or community rehabilitation services
(D) Qualification in Health & Social Care, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work or a related subject
(D) Knowledge of motivational interviewing
(D) Experience working with gambling harms, substance misuse or other addictions, mental health or offending programmes
