  • Take a leading role in shaping and growing a Private Client team with ambitious plans for the future
  • 35-hour working week, flexible hours and hybrid working
  • Join an award-winning regional firm with a strong track record of developing and promoting its people

If you’re an experienced Private Client lawyer who wants the opportunity to build something rather than simply inherit an established role, this could be an excellent next step.

You’ll take ownership of an active caseload from the outset while becoming a senior figure within the department. As you settle in, you’ll support junior colleagues, develop relationships with local referrers and work closely with other departments including Property, Litigation and Corporate.

Longer term, the ambition is for you to help build a team in Mansfield comparable to the firm’s already successful offering elsewhere. That means genuine influence over how the department develops, alongside a clear route towards broader leadership responsibilities.

The culture is close-knit, practical and collaborative. The Head of Department progressed from trainee level within the firm themselves, reflecting a wider commitment to developing people for the long term rather than always looking externally for the next senior hire.

Who we’re looking for

  • Solicitor or Legal Executive with 10+ years’ Private Client experience
  • Strong probate and estate administration experience
  • Able to independently manage a busy Private Client caseload
  • Proven billing and performance track record
  • Business development experience and willingness to develop local referrer relationships
  • Excellent technical knowledge and attention to detail
  • Strong organisation and IT skills
  • Commercially aware, practical and hands-on approach
  • Collaborative, supportive personality with the ability to work effectively with junior colleagues
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience (Desired)
  • Trusts and/or Court of Protection experience (Desired)
  • Experience advising HNW clients (Desired)

What you’ll be doing

  • Probate and estate administration
  • Inheritance tax planning
  • Wills and succession planning
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Trust matters
  • Some Court of Protection work
  • Supporting the development of the firm’s wider lifetime planning offering
  • Supervising and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Developing relationships with IFAs, accountants and other professional referrers
  • Working with other departments to maximise internal referrals
  • Contributing to the longer-term growth strategy for the Mansfield team

Over time, you’ll have the opportunity to become a recognised senior figure within the department, helping shape the Mansfield offering and supporting the firm’s longer-term succession plans.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive salary depending on experience
  • 35-hour working week
  • Typically one day working from home
  • Flexible working hours
  • Car parking provided
  • Flexible benefits may be available for the right candidate
  • Structured training and development plans
  • Support with relevant professional qualifications
  • Strong internal new-business function to triage enquiries
  • Established flow of Private Client work
  • Genuine work-life balance ethos
  • Regular team and firm-wide social events
  • Clear pathway into further leadership responsibilities
  • Potential future regional leadership opportunities
  • Part-time working may be considered depending on experience

This is a particularly strong opportunity for a senior Private Client lawyer who has developed technically but now wants greater ownership, leadership exposure and the chance to influence the future of a growing team.
