Private Sector Housing Officer

A local authority in the North West is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy regulatory service, delivering Private Sector Housing functions while also supporting the Environmental Health team with Statutory Nuisance investigations. The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting residents, improving housing standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Key Responsibilities * Carry out inspections of private sector residential properties. * Assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). * Investigate complaints relating to housing disrepair, poor housing conditions, and landlord compliance. * Prepare and serve statutory notices and undertake enforcement action where necessary. * Support the investigation of Statutory Nuisance complaints, including noise and environmental issues. * Provide guidance and advice to landlords, tenants, and property managers. * Prepare case files, reports, and legal documentation. * Work collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes. Essential Requirements * Previous experience working within a local authority Private Sector Housing Team. * Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS. * Experience undertaking housing inspections and enforcement activity. * Experience investigating or supporting Statutory Nuisance cases. * Excellent communication and case management skills. * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Desirable * Environmental Health qualification or relevant housing qualification. * Experience serving improvement notices and undertaking formal enforcement action. * Knowledge of Environmental Protection Act 1990 legislation
