Product Designer / Senior Product Designer
Abtrace is solving one of the most complex and impactful problems in healthcare: helping primary care deliver proactive, preventative care at scale.
The NHS is under immense pressure. Primary care teams are asked to deliver more care for a larger, longer-living population with limited time and workforce capacity. Improving health outcomes at scale requires healthcare to become more proactive, preventative, and operationally efficient. That means automating wherever possible and thoughtfully digitising the rest.
Abtrace supports over 500 primary care practices across the UK, serving 6 million people. We automate the delivery of measurements, vaccinations, blood tests, reviews, and other routine care. We improve healthcare outcomes, reduce operational burden, and create better experiences for staff and patients.
Healthcare professionals deserve software that is reliable, safe, modern, thoughtful, and well designed. Clarity, craft, and polish matter because they reduce friction and help earn trust in high-stakes work
The role
Design at Abtrace is not a handoff function. We are looking for a designer who wants to own the full loop: understand the problem, shape the solution, and ship it.
The way designers work is changing fast. The best designers we know are already using AI coding tools - Cursor, Claude, v0 - to prototype in real interfaces, ship small features directly, and close the gap between design intent and production reality. That is the kind of designer we are looking for.
You will be the product designer in a cross-functional squad, working closely with a Product Manager, Engineering Lead, clinicians, and customer-facing teams. You will own design within your product area end-to-end.
In practice, you will:
- Design and ship end-to-end product improvements across core workflows — from early exploration to production.
- Use AI coding tools to prototype and ship directly in the frontend, without being bottlenecked by engineering capacity.
- Work closely with clinicians and practice teams to understand how Abtrace is used in the real world.
- Turn complex clinical and operational problems into clear, usable product experiences.
- Bring care and craft to interaction design, visual design, content, hierarchy, and polish.
- Use research, data, and product intuition to learn from what users actually do.
- Contribute to design systems and shared patterns as the design function grows.
This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, complex software used by healthcare teams every day — with the mandate to make design excellent, and the freedom to do it your way.

Who you are
You are a designer who has moved beyond Figma as your primary output — and you are using AI tools to get there.
You are likely a strong fit if you:
- Are actively using AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude, v0, or similar) to prototype, build, and ship — not just to speed up existing workflows but to do things that weren't previously possible for a designer.
- Have shipped small features or UI improvements directly, either independently or working closely with engineers.
- Think of Figma as one tool in a wider workflow, not the end product.
- Can think through workflows, edge cases, constraints, and user needs without losing sight of simplicity.
- Care about both the details of the interface and the broader system it sits within.
- Can explain your thinking clearly and work well with engineers, product managers, clinicians, and other designers.
- Are pragmatic: you know when to explore widely, when to simplify, and when to commit and ship.
- Are energised by a role where the expectations of what a designer can own and deliver are actively expanding.
Experience in healthcare, B2B SaaS, operational tools, data-heavy products, or regulated environments is helpful, but not required.
