Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an enthusiastic Qualified BANK Dispenser to join our dedicated Dispensary team at Mowbray House Surgery and Hutton Rudby Surgery.
This is a BANK position, covering both surgeries at Hutton Rudby and Northallerton on a ad-hoc basis.
You will assist to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GP's and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principle of good practice.
Projecting a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors, dealing with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be part of a large surgery dispensing team. Having excellent communication, organisational, teamworking skills.
Experience of general practice and Systmone would be an advantage, along with NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services / Dispensing or relevant experience.

Job responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
Dispense medicines and appliances following standard operating procedures. Whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with a GP.
Endorse prescriptions in accordance with NHS Prescription Services requirements.
Keep up-to-date with new drugs / medicines and changes in legislation.
Complete significant event forms and ensure colleagues complete significant event forms correctly and in a timely manner.
Liaise with patients, providing advice and guidance as required to promote compliance.
Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the practice manager according to practice protocol.
Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
Answer the telephone promptly and deal with prescription requests.
Issue prepared prescriptions.
Process prescription requests.
Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage.
Ensure that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
Ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook.
Clean work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
Keep records of prescriptions sent to community pharmacies where required.
Check for and process email (online) prescription requests.
Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is dully filled in and signed by the patient or their representative.
Receive monies on behalf of the Practice and keep a record of all the financial transactions.
Provide an efficient and caring home delivery service to patients where requested.
Maintain full and accurate computerised records for all dispensing transactions.

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing (or equivalent)
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- NVQ level 3 in dispensing (or equivalent)
Experience
Essential
- Experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, or healthcare environment.
- Experience handling confidential patient information.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a primary care environment
- Previous experience in a GP practice dispensary.

- You must hold a full driving licence, with access to a vehicle.
