Are you an experienced Quality Manager/Engineer, with a bias towards Mechanical Engineering, and with Aerospace industry knowledge?
Are you available immediately, as your contract has recently ended or is about to finish?
A well-established precision engineering business in Bournemouth is looking for an experienced Quality Manager to join their team on short term contract, to help manage them through a forthcoming NADCAP audit.
May suit a travelling contractor, and therefore the structure of the working week could be open to discussion, if staying away from home.
Reporting into the General Manager, this is a senior leadership team position within a precision machining environment working collaboratively within the team to deliver a set of aligned objectives.
Purpose of Role and Key Accountabilities:
Quality
• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive quality management system that aligns with industry standards such as NADCAP, AS9100 or ISO 9001.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and certifications specific to the business.
• Maintain accurate records of quality tests, inspections, and audits in accordance with regulatory and industry requirements.
• Develop and maintain company-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Identify potential hazards and assess risks in all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, testing, and maintenance.
Cost
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean, and root cause analysis to enhance efficiency and reduce defects.
• Address customer complaints and concerns related to product quality and work towards effective resolution to reduce costs.
• Identify potential quality-related risks and implement preventive measures to mitigate their impact on products and processes.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify non-compliance and areas for improvement.
• Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.
Delivery
• Establish quality control procedures for incoming materials, in-process inspections, and final product testing to ensure adherence to specifications.
• Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to identify and address potential non-conformities and deviations from established standards.
• Generate regular quality reports for management review, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, and aircraft accidents.
People
• Conduct training programs to educate employees about quality standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent understanding of quality assurance.
• Foster open communication channels across departments, including engineering, design, and logistics, to ensure seamless collaboration and information sharing.
• Lead a team of quality professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and support to ensure a cohesive and high-performing quality department.
• Organize and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Ensure that employees are adequately trained in emergency procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
Core skills/attributes needed:
• Bachelor's degree in, quality management, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications such as ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
• Relevant certifications, such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in health and safety management, preferably in the aerospace or manufacturing industry.
• Extensive knowledge of aerospace industry regulations and standards, such as AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA requirements.
• Strong understanding of quality management principles, methodologies, and tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Proficiency in data analysis and quality management software tools.
• Experience in leading and managing quality improvement projects.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse workforce.

Skills Required
Experienced in Quality Management roles previously, preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment
Knowledge of NADCAP audit requirements

Qualifications Required
Relevant engineering qualification and/or time served background
