Quantity Surveyor

Location: Sheffield Salary: £35,000 – £55,000 per annum, depending on experience Job Type: Permanent Sector: Highways / Surfacing / Civil Engineering Alpha Recruitment are currently working with an established highways and surfacing contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Sheffield. The company delivers a range of highway maintenance, road surfacing and civil engineering projects across the region, and this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused QS looking to join an established and growing business. This role would be perfect for a junior graduate or someone who has experience in the role and a background in QS. The Role As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of highways and surfacing projects from procurement through to final account. Your responsibilities will include: * Managing project costs, budgets and forecasts * Preparing valuations and applications for payment * Managing variations and compensation events * Subcontractor procurement and management * Preparing and agreeing final accounts * Cost reporting and forecasting * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities * Monitoring project performance and profitability * Commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors * Working closely with Project Managers and Site Teams * Maintaining accurate commercial records and reporting About You The ideal candidate will have: * Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within highways, surfacing, civil engineering or construction * Strong commercial awareness * Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers * Good understanding of valuations, variations and final accounts * Strong negotiation and communication skills * Excellent attention to detail * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously * A proactive approach to commercial management Experience working on highways maintenance, road surfacing, asphalt, infrastructure or local authority projects would be highly advantageous. Relevant qualifications such as an HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline would also be beneficial.
