Quantity Surveyor - Structural Alterations Location: Hertfordshire Sector: Structural Alterations & Specialist Construction Industry: Building and Construction Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 DOE Overview Our client is a leading specialist structural alterations contractor with over 20 years of industry success, delivering complex projects across Central London valued between £200,000 and £6 million. Renowned for their proactive approach and high standards of delivery, they have built long-standing relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, consultants and private clients, generating a significant amount of repeat business. The Role Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for providing commercial support across multiple structural alteration projects, ensuring costs are controlled, variations are captured and projects remain commercially successful throughout their lifecycle. The successful candidate will have strong commercial awareness and previous experience within the construction sector. Experience in cut and carve projects is essential. Key Responsibilities Commercial Management Preparing and submitting variations with supporting substantiation Producing measurements, site reports, scope documents and daywork records Pricing variations from first principles and contract rates Managing project costs and monitoring financial performance Producing cost reports, forecasts and commercial updates Supporting project profitability through effective commercial controls Assisting with final accounts and commercial close-out activities Procurement & Subcontract Management Preparing subcontract tender enquiries and documentation Producing scopes of works for subcontract packages Undertaking tender analysis and comparisons Assisting with subcontract procurement activities Managing commercial relationships with subcontractors and suppliers Contract Administration Administering contracts with clients and subcontractors Ensuring contractual compliance across projects Supporting the resolution of commercial and contractual issues Maintaining accurate project and commercial records Stakeholder Management Liaising with clients, site teams, subcontractors and consultants Supporting operational teams with commercial advice and guidance Building and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders Requirements HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction Experience working on cut and carve projects is essential Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes Experience preparing and managing variations Strong cost reporting and forecasting experience Excellent communication and negotiation skills Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
