Job summary

Post holder will be able to assist in the daily planning and organisation of the recovery area for clinical procedures of the post surgery patient. Post holder will be expected to recover patients providing individualised care and maintaining high quality evidence based clinical care. Post holder will monitor and maintain the highest standard of nursing care achieving all standards set by the department. Post includes checking, witnessing and administration of controlled drugs. Participate in the post surgery and post Anaesthetic care of patients including the recovery of a full range surgical specialities which includes HDU patients post op, and the care of the deteriorating patient.

Main duties of the job

Receiving patients from Theatre and ensuring a complete and safe handover is given by the Anaesthetist and Theatre staff. Ensuring airway management is maintained and all observations are maintained and within acceptable ranges. Pain management and control is effectively carried out using an appropriate pain tool and analgesia administered when required. Temperature monitoring and intervention when required. Administration of all prescribed drugs including controlled drugs. Administration of blood and blood products. An ability to use administration pumps/pain controlled Analgesia pumps and Epidural pumps safely and effectively. Liaising with ward staff and DTC staff.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a qualified nurse registered with the NMC. The post holder will participate in the safe recovery of post surgical patients. The post holder will exercise professional standards at all times, they will exercise professional accountability as guided by the NMC code of conduct. They will act as a role role model and assist in the in the support of junior nursing staff and students. Post holder will maintain effective communication with patients, their relatives and their colleagues, as well as all members of the MDT.
