Job summary

A2 is a 35-bedded surgical ward specialising in Urology, ENT and general surgery. Our ward provides a fast-paced environment where the care we deliver can be demanding and with fast turnover, but equally offers extensive learning opportunities and the chance to grow professionally in a supportive setting.

We are looking for a committed Nurse who is dedicated to providing exceptional care and ensuring that we consistently perform to the highest standards, achieving the best outcomes for our patients. You will work alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team including surgical consultants, nurse practitioners, and critical care outreach, in a collaborative environment that promotes learning and growth.

  • Provide high-quality patient care: Deliver compassionate and effective care to patients within the surgical unit, ensuring their needs are met with the highest standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the MDT: Engage with surgeons, nurse practitioners, and critical care outreach teams to deliver coordinated care and ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Ensure safety and comfort: Monitor patients' condition and provide interventions as necessary, including administering medications, observing vital signs, and responding to patient concerns.
  • Participate in patient education and discharge planning: Support patients and their families with education on post-operative care, recovery, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate patient records: Ensure all documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with Trust policies and standards.
  • Support team development: Engage in ongoing learning and development, participate in training sessions, and contribute to the development of the team.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Live NMC registration with pin or final year UK Nursing Student

Desirable

  • Evidence of professional development (post registration)
  • Recognised teaching/mentorship course

Experience

Essential

  • Acute care experience

Desirable

  • Experience within Urology, Surgery and ENT

Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Competent at nursing assessments and delivery of care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Ability to undertake clinical skills including IV administration, cannulation, venepuncture, central line access (including but not limited to)
