We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Traffic Operator to join our professional team at our Nursling depot, coordinating general haulage and container operations across the UK. Please read the following job description thoroughly to ensure you are the right fit for this role before applying.

The role
The successful candidate will plan and coordinate UK-wide general haulage and container collections and deliveries. This will include managing port and depot bookings through Vehicle Booking Systems, monitoring collection and delivery slots, and responding promptly to delays, booking changes and operational issues. They will ensure compliance with road transport legislation, the Working Time Directive and drivers hours regulations, maintain accurate administration, and communicate clearly and proactively with drivers, customers, depots and internal teams.
Previous experience in a similar transport planning or back-office transport role
Excellent geographical knowledge and route-planning skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions, manage expectations and remain professional under pressure
Experience of liaising with drivers and customers in a busy operational environment, including communicating delays, resolving queries and escalating issues promptly
Experience of managing drivers hours, trailer rotation and the efficient allocation of container equipment.
Ability to use a computerised transport management system and associated operational applications
Experience of container transport operations, including the use of port and depot Vehicle Booking Systems (VBS), managing booking slots and responding to operational changes.
Excellent customer service skills and a strong team ethic, both inside and outside the office
A CPC qualification is not essential but may support your application
Hours: A rota system operating between 06:00 and 18:00, plus one Saturday or Sunday morning in four, as required. Additional payment is provided for weekend working.
