Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic Senior Renal Technician to work in our busy and friendly Renal Unit.

You will work as part of a dedicated team involved in the running of our Acute Dialysis unit and providing technical support to our 2 satellite dialysis units in the community.

You should be eager to learn, flexible, reliable, able to work accurately, follow detailed standard operating procedures and have good attention to detail.

Our Service operates 7 days per week and our technical team provide an on-call service when out of hours.

You must have Haemodialysis experience and be a car owner/driver as home visiting will be required.

Main duties of the job

To maintain, calibrate and repair dialysis machines and related equipment in the Renal Unit, within patient's homes, & other areas within the Trust where dialysis equipment is located

To provide technical support as appropriate medical staff, nurses and patients in the renal unit and across other specialties within the Trust as required.

Assist in the development and evaluation of new dialysis therapies and techniques in consultation with medical staff and dialysis companies

To maintain and service water purification equipment including the periodic disinfection of such systems

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • Professional electronics knowledge acquired through: Basic Electrical engineering e.g. City & Guilds or Fresenius Training
  • Member of a Professional Body eg. IET (Institute of Engineering & Technicians) NANT (National Association of Nephrologists) / Technologists ART (Association of Renal Technologists)
  • Specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate diploma and specialist training to BTEC in engineering or once in post working towards BTEC qualification / Foundation degree HNC in Electronics

Desirable

  • Working towards gaining BTEC / HNC Qualification in Electrical engineering.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous renal technician experience in an acute hospital
  • Be able to service, calibrate Fresenius 6008 and 5008s dialysis machines. Including fault finding and diagnosis and fit appropriate parts to dialysis machinery
  • Experience maintaining Fresenius multi-filtrate / Plasma Exchange Machine
  • AquaC UNO H RO's
  • Previous experience of water sampling within the hospital and community settings
  • Able to analyse complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options
