Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Sonographers to join our very friendly and dedicated multi-disciplinary team at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

Our busy and dynamic departments are responsible for the delivery of a wide case mix including Obstetric, General Abdominal, Gynaecology, Small Parts and Musculoskeletal examinations. Applications from Sonographers with skills in any of the above areas are welcome.

Candidates must hold a CASE accredited PgCert / Dip / MSc or DMU qualification in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent.

Fulltime and part time positions, and flexible working arrangements are available and open for discussion.

The post holder will work across Bristol City and Weston Operating unit sites, working alongside a supportive and diverse team to deliver ultrasound services across a wide range of specialties to support patients within obstetric care, emergency /acute care, and referred through secondary care.

Included within the trust's hospital sites are St Michaels' Hospital, which provides obstetric care as well as being the South West's referral unit for fetal and maternal medicine, Bristol Royal Infirmary, which provides acute and emergency services, and is a Tertiary referral centre for upper GI cancer, and a regional centre for complex liver disease, and Weston General Hospital, which is a district general hospital offering ultrasound services across a broad range of specialties.

Main duties of the job

Your role will include (but will not be limited to):

  • perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
  • provide diagnostic report of examinations according to the level of authorisation agreed.
  • participate in service provision across the different sites.
  • Communicate and liaise with patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have experience in the ultrasound ultrasound techniques and a thorough understanding of their application in a range of examinationareas mentioned above.
  • have previous NHS experience .
  • hold post graduate qualifications in Obstetric , Gynaecological Ultrasound and/or General Abdominal Ultrasound
  • be competent in independent reporting in ultrasound
  • demonstrate a commitment to maintain the highest standards of imaging and service delivery.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience/ qualilfications

Essential

  • Comprehensive and extensive knowledge and experience in ultrasound modality
  • Competency in independent reporting at Advanced practice level with enhanced clinical reasoning skills
  • Previous NHS ultrasound experience
  • Excellent organisational and time management, planning and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills
  • Able to work as part of a team and also independently

Desirable

  • Able to instruct and supervise others
  • Research and development skills

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or PG Certificate / Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound from a CASE approved University or equivalent
  • Registration - HCPC or Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT)
  • BSc (Hons) Radiography or equivalent
