Job summary
Research Fellow: SECURE Study
We seek to appoint two academic fellows (0.2 WTE), specifically to support working on the SECURE study, for a period of 6 months with a start date of September 2026 onwards.
This post is suitable for senior anaesthesia/ICM trainees seeking with experience of running a resident research network and participating in national service evaluation projects.
This post is based in the Bristol Heart Institute, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. Funding is via the Association of Anaesthetists.
The Bristol Heart Institute is a large regional cardiac centre offering adult cardiac surgery, ACHD surgery, a developing major aortic service, as well as an extensive cardiac Cath lab service including rapidly expanding TAVI and edge to edge valve repair programmes.
The post does not include time for clinical experience; however, successful applicants will be supported in gaining clinical experience and other academic experience if desired.
This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and does not carry a National Training Number.
Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that candidates provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom and attach confirmation to your application.
Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration.
Main duties of the job
This post in Adult Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care involves a flexible commitment working on data analysis for the SECURE study. There is no clinical or on-call commitment attached to this post. Fellows will be supported to pursue other academic, clinical and education opportunities within the department if appropriate.

- Experience leading a regional research network

- Completion of FRCA or FFICM by examination
