Respiratory Consultant - interest in Lung Infection (shared with RPH)
Job summary
The Department of Respiratory Medicine currently provides the following services: TB, Lung Cancer, Airway Disease (COPD, Bronchiectasis and Asthma), Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Thromboembolic Disease and Pleural. We provide a daily inpatient referral service and deliver a Nurse-led COPD, Oxygen, Bronchiectasis and Sleep service.
This post offers the opportunity to join our existing team of Consultants in Respiratory Medicine at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for an individual who wants to be able to influence and develop an evolving department. We are committed to providing the best level of care and continually push to advance Respiratory Medicine within the region. The right candidate will be a team player with a flexible approach to support and complement the existing Respiratory Service, who will take an active role in improving patient care. The appointment is for a total of 10 PAs per week, with up to a further 1.25 PAs for on-call work.
This is a joint post with Royal Papworth Hospital.

- Undertake general/speciality Respiratory Medicine out-patient clinics at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital
- Provide in-patient ward care predominantly on B12 and B1
- Lead, manage and develop Respiratory medicine sub-specialty: Infection.
- Lead and maintain the TB service for NWAFT, including clinics and MDT
- attend Bronchiectasis MDT
- Support Clinical Lead and Directorate Management team including the development of clinical outcome measures and service line reporting.
- Provide on call within the department of medicine: approximately 1 in 28 frequency (PCH site), or 1 in 14 (HH site).
- Provide weekend cover for B12 at PCH 1 in 7
- Contribute to the training of junior doctors and nurses
- Support TB related research, as part of an agreed research programme, and to contribute to audit activities.

Job responsibilities
Principal elements of the post:
- Maintenance and development of Respiratory Medicine services within the Trust to the highest standard.
- This role is predominantly centred at Peterborough City Hospital, with some cross-site commitment withHinchingbrooke Hospital and Royal Papworth.
- Inpatient cover includes B12 Respiratory ward and B1 Infectious disease ward.
- To share with colleagues the responsibility of delivering high quality care in Respiratory Medicine in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses and other professionals allied to medicine.
- To actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
- Lead role in sub speciality depending on experience of successful candidate.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
The job plan will be developed in conjunction with the Lead Clinician and Divisional Director, Divisional Operations Director, other Respiratory Consultant colleagues and Royal Papworth Hospital. It will be finalised once the successful candidate is appointed to meet the skills they bring.
Clinical PAs will be split between Ward rounds, out-patient clinics and other specialty areas (see sample rota below).
NB: This job has been written with a 10PA timetable. However, we would consider candidates wishing to work more or less: the timetable would be adjusted accordingly with negotiation with the successful candidate.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP
- CCT in GIM & Respiratory Medicine (or equivalent or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) or on the Specialist Register
Desirable
- Higher qualification (e.g. MD, PhD)

- Full registration and license to practice with the GMC
- Successful health screening

- Member of Medical Defence organisation
Experience

- Extensive training and experience in General Internal Medicine as well as Respiratory Medicine
- Ability to communicate with other members/grades of staff, patients, families and General Practitioners.
