Salaried General Practitioner
Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Salaried GP to join our close-knit and responsive traditional practice for 4-6 sessions per week. We are located in Altrincham, Greater Manchester with good transport links and local amenities. You will be joining three GP Partners, one Salaried GP, one ARRS GP, two experienced Practice Nurses, one Healthcare Assistant and two Phlebotomists. The practice benefits from the support of a wide team of professionals from our Primary Care Network, including two Clinical Pharmacists, two First Contact Physiotherapists, one Mental Health Nurse, and one Social Prescriber. We are a training practice hosting medical students from a broad range of medical schools across England and it is our goal to commence hosting GP Registrars.
Main duties of the job
The Salaried GP will deliver highly effective, patient-centred medical care to the practice population, in line with the primary care contract. This includes assessing patients' physical and psychological needs, planning care, prescribing safely per local and national guidance, and managing long-term conditions, complex cases, and urgent or emergency presentations. The postholder will support patients in self-care and healthy lifestyles, review medications per NICE and local guidelines, and maintain accurate clinical records. They will share equally in the workload, follow clinical governance standards, contribute to QOF and anticipatory care planning, and support quality improvement. Duties include timely processing of referrals and prescriptions, active participation in meetings and training, and adherence to safeguarding responsibilities for children and adults. The GP must engage with appraisal and revalidation, pursue ongoing professional development, and help foster a learning culture. Working collaboratively across the practice and wider multi-disciplinary network, the postholder will promote continuous improvement, provide leadership and mentorship where needed, and contribute to local initiatives enhancing service delivery, undertaking additional duties as required.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.
a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
b. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
c. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
d. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
e. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
f. Effective management of long-term conditions
g. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
h. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
i. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
j. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
k. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
l. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
m. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
n. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
o. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF
p. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
q. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
r. Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
s. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
t. Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
u. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
v. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
w. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
x. To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
y. Supervise medical students and other trainee roles assigned to the organisation
z. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels
Wider responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Salaried GP has the following wider responsibilities:
a. Participate in the spectrum of clinical governance processes
b. Participate in formal training events promoting best practice in area of expertise Provide leadership and education for members of the multi-disciplinary team, providing guidance and support when necessary
c. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Other Requirements
Essential
- Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
- Occupational health clearance.
- Flexibility to work outside of core office hours.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
- Access to own transport and ability to travel across the locality on a regular basis.
Experience

- Experience of working in a primary care environment.

- Good Microsoft Office and clinical system IT knowledge.

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) including recording of accurate clinical notes.
