Job summary

We are looking for a six session General Practitioner to manage a diverse patient list in a primary care setting, delivering high-quality, person-centred care in line with clinical guidelines and GMC standards.

We welcome applications from newly qualified GPs and offer a full induction plan to help you to settle in and mentoring to help with your progression.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include conducting consultations (face-to-face, telephone, and occasional home visits), managing long-term conditions, prescribing appropriately, maintaining accurate clinical records, and completing clinical administration efficiently. The role involves working collaboratively with primary care and community teams to provide coordinated care. The post-holder will engage in continuous professional development, participate in practice meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical services.

About us

Montgomery House Surgery is a well-established teaching and training practice, serving a diverse population of approximately 16,000 patients in and around Bicester. We have a strong commitment to education and professional development and have supported GP training for many years.

Each of our 9 Salaried GPs and GP Partners manages a diverse patient list with a broad spectrum of healthcare needs, delivering high-quality, person-centred care with a focus on continuity of care. We offer all appointments as either face to face or telephone consultations, and work on a pre-bookable model to facilitate the development of relationships with named GPs.

GP lists include 17 booked appointments plus time allocated for GP follow up, equivalent to 8 appointments, along with up to 10 tasks urgent scripts, fit notes etc, and time blocked for admin and we offer regular GP and Educational Meetings and foster an environment of continuous development and learning.

Of course we work in line with current clinical guidelines and the professional standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the role encompasses all duties and responsibilities normally associated with a General Practitioner working in primary care.

Job responsibilities

This would ideally be a six session post.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide effective medical care to patients..

Conduct patient consultations via telephone, face-to-face, and occasional home visits where clinically appropriate.

Manage long-term conditions effectively, ensuring continuity and a proactive approach to patient care.

Assess and treat patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health problems, using sound clinical judgement.

Prescribe generically and in accordance with both local and national prescribing guidelines.

Maintain clear, accurate, and contemporaneous clinical records in line with professional standards, practice policy, and legal requirements.

Process administrative tasks in a timely and efficient manner, including referrals, pathology results, repeat prescriptions, and other documentation.

Adhere to evidence-based best practice as recommended through national clinical guidelines and the audit process.

Work collaboratively with other members of the primary care and community services teams to ensure coordinated, holistic care.

Professional Development & Engagement:

Engage actively in continuous professional development, supported by the practice, with opportunities for further training and career progression.

Participate in practice meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and mentoring or supervision where appropriate.

Contribute to the ongoing development of clinical services and practice operations, promoting innovation and excellence in patient care.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Sound experience in a General Practice / Primary Care environment.
  • Fully qualified General Practitioner (GP), eligible to work within the NHS.
  • Registered on the National Performers List.
  • Holds full General Medical Council (GMC) registration as a General Practitioner.
  • Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

Desirable

  • Clinical specialism or evidence of leadership in a primary care setting
  • Experience of working to achieve Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
  • Understanding of the health and care needs of the local patient population
  • Proficient in the use of EMIS Web clinical system
